Organization Description:
World Relief Minnesota is an affiliate ministry of World Relief, and
mobilizes churches to minister to refugee and immigrant families in
Minneapolis-St. Paul. World Relief provides a number of direct
services to immigrant families and offers training and volunteer
opportunities for churches and individuals. World Relief Minnesota, in
partnership with local churches, has been working since 1988 to
welcome the persecuted people of the world who have come to our state
to begin a new life of freedom and safety with their families.
Description of
the project:
“Co-Sponsorship” of a refugee family for 3 months. This includes
meeting a refugee family at the airport when they arrive, providing
transportation to the grocery store and other appointments, helping
the family find furniture for an apartment, teaching them about
American culture, and being their first American friend. The idea is
to be the hands and feet of Jesus; to reach out in love to persecuted
people, many of whom have come from countries that are closed to the
gospel. This project works best with a team of volunteers who can
adopt a family.
Dates of
service:
We are looking for a 3 month commitment during the months of May –
September.
Time
Commitment/Hours:
An average of 2 hours a week with more help needed the first few weeks
of a family’s arrival.
Training/Screening Requirements:
Application process includes training, application, criminal
background check.
